Avianca Holdings S.A., an air transport enterprise established in 1919 and headquartered in Bogotá, Colombia, provides comprehensive passenger and cargo air services through its subsidiaries. Operating across the United States, Central America, the Caribbean, its native Colombia, the broader South American region, and international markets, the company segments its activities into Air Transportation and a Loyalty division. Beyond core flight operations, Avianca extends offerings like aircraft maintenance, crew training, and airport services to other carriers. For its customers, it delivers in-flight amenities such as meals, beverages, and entertainment, alongside baggage handling, charter flights, services for unaccompanied minors, and lounge access. Its commercial endeavors also encompass leasing airport space for various facilities (check-in, ticket sales, VIP lounges), marketing rebates, duty-free sales, and direct ticket distribution. The firm manages LifeMiles, its dedicated frequent flyer program. As of December 31, 2020, its fleet consisted of 146 aircraft, with 135 for passengers and 11 for cargo. Originally named AviancaTaca Holding S.A. until a change in March 2013, the company is a subsidiary of BRW Aviation LLC. A significant recent event includes its voluntary petition for Chapter 11 reorganization, filed with its affiliates on May 10, 2020, in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.
